Los Reyes Magos

Two posts in one day....woohoo!

We decided to keep the boys out late and see the Denia Three Kings Day parade! The parade consists of the kings docking at port, parading down the main street, throwing candy, a procession to see Mary and Jesus, and ends with more candy from the town hall building. And tonight little Spanish children will rush home to leave out their shoes in hopes that the kings will leave them gifts overnight!

It was a lot of fun! Here's a video the pics we took:

What a wonderful idea! A wonderful way to Celebrate the Christ Child. Sure beats the fat guy in the red suit.

Apparently the fat guy wasn't a part of the Holidays until just a few years ago.

Most families still celebrate primarily on January 6 as the day to recieve presents, etc. And gifts are left by the Kings.

And a really great cake: Roscon de Reyes...mmmmm....

The song is my husband's favorite version of the carol. And I guess it's sung mostly by Sara McGlauglin (sp?) at that point (I cut the song down just to "We Three Kings")

Sounds like fun.
I love parades, especially when they throw out candy.
When our fire truck rode in the last parade they wouldn't let us throw out candy or even hand out stickers...safety issues **sigh**

They played that song a lot during the Christmas music marathons here. (And my daughter had to point out that there are actually two hymns in there and not just one; it was so seamless that I hadn't picked up on that!)

I think it's wonderful, too, that there is focus on this day, as we forget that the kings didn't come until later on, that there are the ones identified as bringing gifts. It's interesting that they have the shoe tradition, which I think is also tied to the Dutch and maybe the Germans, too?

Anyhow, I have no doubt your guys enjoyed the evening and will treasure this memory and event always.

Love your new photos, by the way!
