A Kind Word

As pastors, Sunday is the hardest day of the week. That may be shocking. It's the day when everything seems to be pulling apart at the seams. Your kids don't listen. Your pantyhose ruin consistently. You can't find the paper you needed, and laid out the night before so that this wouldn't happen. You and your spouse can't agree on even simple things, like banana yogurt or strawberry. All in all it's a tough day, well, at least it is in our household.

I know that this is the enemy's tactic of warfare. If you are distracted, you are of no good to the Kingdom. So, one is to expect a certain amount of struggle and confrontation when approaching Kingdom building events (ie: corporate worship).

So, next Sunday take a moment to find your pastor and/or their family members and offer some encouragement. Because the more I "investigate" the more I find that this is a reoccuring phenomenon in many pastoral households. Tell them they're doing a great job. Take them to lunch. Bring them a baked good. (Someone made us bread pudding today...it's the little things!) Distract their kids for a second while they engage in a conversation.

Remember, we're all in this together.

Thank you for the reminder that pastors get "distracted" too, and that we might all be better off trying to encourage them on a Sunday with something than arming ourselves to critique them about anything.

Crank up the inspirational music over breakfast! Hard to battle over yogurt when you're singing "Amazing Grace."

Keep fighting that devil! You're doing God's will and I know doing it well. May you continue to be encouraged.

I think I'll bake something for my pastor this week!

baked goods ALWAYS make the day better...on that note, I think I'm going to have some cake before going to bed...

I completely agree. You must have been listening in to conversations in our house this morning before we left for the corps....and then Dave had listed me in the bulletin to read the scripture, which just happened to be on the Fruit of the Spirit. Coincidence? No, I think God got me. Again, someone else is going through the SAME THINGS, even though we are worlds apart. I am grateful.

I completely understand what you're saying. I go through it on Sunday mornings just to go to church. Seems like tension in the air etc. And it would be so easy just to stay home.
CK reminded me also that it is the devil trying to win.

I love reading your blog. It's good for my soul. I wish I could bake y'all something. It will get a tad easier as the boys grow, your stuck with Jeff though lol. You guys are great officers, full of love for your people and the work God wants to do through you. I hope you feel encouraged this day.
